I'm a 20-something gal married to a guy who makes me laugh until I snort. My pups bring me so much joy. We live in a little apartment steps away from a lake - I've always been a water baby and there's few things I love more than the sounds of water hitting the shore. I consider myself a Minnesotan, but I'll always call Iowa home. 9 years in the city has taught me a thing or two about resiliency, independence, and who I want to be when I grow up. You can usually find me reading a book in my hammock or laughing over whiskey with someone I love. I believe in doughnuts for every celebration, that big earrings compliment every outfit, that music has the power to transport us, and, most of all, I believe in myself. Let's be pals.
When I was a little girl, I spent all the money I could scrounge up on disposable cameras. My days were spent running around my little Iowa resort town, snapping where sand meets water meets sky. I distinctly remember the first time I held a digital camera in my hands.
My grandmother passed down her love of photographing nature; she took beautiful images of the roses in her garden. It took me a long time to be brave enough to venture into taking pictures of people rather than nature. After devastating loss, I recognized just how important my humans are.. and how important yours are, too, so there's nowhere I'd rather be than documenting them.

Times i've been accidentally called "Joy"
One of the first images I remember taking - circa 1999, disposable camera
Jo shot our wedding over the weekend and HOLY COW IS SHE AMAZING! My husband hates the spotlight, being in front of people, and having pictures taken and he said his favorite/most fun part of the day was getting pictures taken. I feel like any recommendation I give can't say more than that. Jo makes you feel so comfortable and is such a charismatic gal. We were laughing the whole time! Not only that, she's so creative! We definitely got the traditional shots, but some of the ideas she can were so new and fun. You know she truly cares about each and every picture. She knew when to whisk us away from the crowds, and everyone from my parents to our friends to our wedding party are still raving about how fantastic she is.
“I would like to give two enthusiastic thumbs up for our wedding photographer Joy by Jo. It is so obvious that Jo loves photographing couples and she has that special touch you want in a photographer — she gives incredible direction and even made my usually camera-shy husband feel so at ease. (I think he even ENJOYED being photographed by her!) Her style is natural and easy — she captures those little moments that can never be created with a pose. ”
Our best wedding find and decision was Jo, without a doubt! She has an energy that is contagious and I love that is reflected in her work. My husband has never been a fan of getting photos taken but enjoys getting photos done with Jo!
For our engagement shoot, Jo went ABOVE and BEYOND to capture who we are as a couple (in 100 degree temps). For our wedding, we saw the same amazing talents shining through in NEGATIVE temperatures. We have found a forever photographer and a lifelong friend we cherish.
